Smallville and the horse watchers

26 Oct

I’m finally catching up on Smallville on 40D, I’d stopped watching it for a bit but randomly catching a few episodes this season I started to watch it again. American TV shows are expensive, in fact making TV shows full stop is expensive. Genre TV requiring endless special effects must be a real pain to manage.

I was also enjoying Legend of the Seeker, it was cheesy sure but I kept coming back for more. The trouble was, it was aiming to be epic fantasy, but large armies cost a fortune, and so do horses. Week after week you’d see the same horses ridden by different characters, sometimes the main cast travelled across the land on foot, but the next episodes those same horses would be back with them. But the horses where a kind of shorthand for fantasy land, it was annoying but it didn’t really effect the story…

In a way Smallville is also increasingly like this but replace horses with actors. Smallville’s been setting up the Justice League and an increasing amount of DC heroes show up, but not all at once because it’s expensive. Take Louis and Clark’s Wedding…You can see Clark, Louis, Green Arrow/Oliver, Chloe and Ma Kent and The ghost (!) of Pa Kent ( who talks to Clark all episode and no one says anything)…

But who are all the other people? Where’s the rest of the Justice league, they can’t be patrolling or at watch tower because otherwise wouldn’t they have noticed the evil planet flying toward them? Didn’t Superboy arrive in the series a few episodes ago, he was going to go to Smallville High and live with Clark at the Farm..but then he went to stay with Mrs Kent. Mrs Kent is there at the wedding, so where’s Superboy? Oh Louis Father couldn’t go to the Wedding, OK so where’s Louis’ sister?

Who are all those people at the Wedding? How much did all those extras cost?!
